NCAA D-II National Championships Results
SAINT LEO, Fla. – With junior
Ruben Dominguez leading the way, the Cal Poly Pomona men's cross country team finished eighth at the NCAA Division II National Championships to match the program's best finish since 1997.
The Broncos totaled 311 points to place eighth nationally and third among the West Region squads. Adams State captured the D-II title with 54 points.
Dominguez, a Compton native and Don Bosco Tech graduate, placed 23rd individually to earn All-American honors for the first time in his CPP career. He crossed the line in 30:59.6.
Brandon Ferguson, a senior from Irvine, put together a stellar performance in his final cross country race with the Broncos. He placed 41st with a mark of 31:20.4.
Grant Stromberg finished 35 seconds later, crossing the line in 31:55.4 to finish 74th overall.
Rounding out the top five for CPP were a pair of seniors,
Mark Huizar and
Teague Senninger. Huizar posted a 32:24.7 time while Senninger raced to a mark of 32:37.8.
The Broncos have advanced to the National Championships in each of the past four seasons. Since 1997, the top two performances by CPP men's cross country have come in 2013 and 2016 - both eighth-place finishes.
