POMONA, Calif. – The No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team will return to action on Saturday as they host the Cal State San Marcos Cougars for the first time ever at Kellogg Arena. The contest will mark CPP's annual homecoming game as well as senior night for the Broncos.
Three members of the Green and Gold squad will be celebrating their final season of collegiate competition in the contest, which is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Jordan Faison,
Barry Bell, and
Francois Tchoyi are the Broncos' three seniors this season.
Faison has been a standout player for the Broncos this season as he is leading the team and averaging 17.5 points per game. His tally has secured him fourth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). He also leads the Broncos with an average of 7.8 rebounds per game, good for fourth as well. He has tallied 40 blocks which leads the Broncos and lands him second in the CCAA.
A native of Lake Forest, Faison leads the conference with a .587 field goal percentage. All-time, Faison is second on the Broncos' all-time scoring list after his points against Chico State boosted him past Larry Gordon. He also is No. 1 on the all-time list for field goals.
Bell advanced to the fourth-place spot on CPP's all-time list in the steals category against Stanislaus State as his steal in the game gave him 181 in his career to pass Mitchel Anderson who snagged 180 in 2013. Bell is also second all-time with 363 assists. He trails just Tom Ispas, who played for CPP from 1974-78 and tallied 410 in his time.
Tchoyi is the final CPP senior this season. So far in 2015-16, he has sank 46-of-78 shots for a team-leading .590 field goal percentage. The native of Cameroon also averages 2.5 rebounds per game and has tallied seven blocks.
CPP has tallied a 20-6 overall record on the season thus far, complete with a 13-6 mark in CCAA play. With a third-place standing in the conference, CPP is set to host the first round of the CCAA Championships on Tuesday March 1, with the opponent yet to be determined. As of a Feb. 24 Regional Poll, the Broncos rank at No. 7 in the West Region behind fellow CCAA schools Chico State (2) and UC San Diego (3).
CSUSM will be heading to Kellogg Arena for the first time ever with a 15-10 overall record and an 11-7 mark against conference opponents.
