Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

CPP Wins! CCAA Playoffs Start Tuesday at CPP

POMONA, Calif. - In front of a near sellout crowd at Kellogg Arena, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team topped the Cal State San Marcos Cougars 64-54. The contest was the two squad's lone meeting of the year, and first-ever meeting in program history.

2,274 fans packed into Kellogg Arena on Saturday night to witness the Broncos Homecoming game and Senior night. Getting honored in the contest were the Green and Gold's three seniors this season, Jordan Faison, Barry Bell, and Francois Tchoyi.

For his performance on the night, Faison was named the Player of the Game. The Lake Forest Native tallied a team leading 13 points on a 5-for-10 shooting from the field. Faison also added five rebounds, an assist and a pair of blocks.

Just behind Faison with 12 points of his own and an even 12 rebounds was Quentin Taylor. The junior also contributed a pair of steals in the game and sank two of his three shots taken from beyond the arc. Jordan Ogundiran tallied 11 points in the contest and added four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Bell lead the squad in the assists category as he posted five of the Broncos' 11 in the game. He also added five rebounds and a steal with his eight points.

As a team the Broncos drastically outshot their opponents. The visitors to Kellogg Arena totaled 16-of-56 shots made while the home town CPP squad sank 24-of-55. The Cougars did double the Green and Gold's three point number at 10 to five, but the Broncos outrebounded the opposition 47-to-34.

The home team controlled the course of the contest through 90.1% of it and led a total of 36:03 minutes. The Cougars led of the game's scoring with a three that the Broncos rebutted, and those 28 seconds were the entirety of CSUSM's lead.

In the second half, the CPP squad earned its largest lead of the game, holding a 15-point advantage over the Cougars. The visitors did bounce back and even came within a few baskets of the Green and Gold, but the Broncos held out and secured the victory at home 64-54.

On Tuesday the Broncos will host the San Francisco State Gators at Kellogg Arena at 7 p.m. In conference play the SFSU squad posted an even 10-10 record to clinch the No. 6 seed. In their final regular season contest, they topped the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes at the Coyotes' home court in Coussoulis Arena.
