POMONA, Calif. – The nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona baseball team continues conference play this weekend in a four-game series with UC San Diego. Most recently in league action, the Broncos swept a four-game set from Cal State San Marcos.
This week, the Broncos will start the series at Scolinos Field on Saturday at 6 p.m. As always, free admission is available for CPP students, faculty and staff. On Sunday, the Broncos and Tritons will play a doubleheader in La Jolla beginning at 2 p.m. The series finale will be held at CPP with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Monday.
Jared James, a senior outfielder from Sacramento, continues to be a standout on offense for the Broncos. He is tied for third in RBI for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). He's also third in the conference for slugging percentage with an impressive .716. In home runs James is tied for second in the CCAA.
Senior pitcher
Peter Bayer has been successful on the mound, limiting opponents to a .143 batting average, a number that leads the conference. Senior
Ryan Olson continues to do well and is currently in 5th place in the conference for earned run average (ERA).
The Broncos' pitching staff owns the lowest ERA in the CCAA with a 3.01 mark. CPP has also collected a league-best nine saves, including three from
Ryan Alsworth and two from
Peter Beattie.
As a team, CPP leads the conference in stolen bases this season with 46.
Chris Stratton has paced the Broncos with 17 stolen bases in 20 attempts.
The Tritons and Broncos are ranked No. 23 and No. 24 respectively in this week's Collegiate Baseball Newspaper national poll. In the CCAA South Division standings, CPP ranks No. 1 with a 7-3 conference mark while UCSD is second at 7-5. In non-conference play, the Broncos met the Tritons and lost 6-2 on Feb. 14.

660 Kellogg Drive, Pomona, CA" to Google Maps and that will be the entrance to Lot B. Just turn left and follow that route to parking spots next to the baseball field. Do not parking in a spot marked for a student resident. Parking permits can be purchased at any of the yellow kiosks in Lot B. Permits are $7/day during the week and $4/day during the weekend.
