By: Aaron Salazar

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team will return to action this weekend with a three-game series against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) foe Cal State Monterey Bay. The contests will be held at Scolinos Field.

Game times between the Broncos and Otters have changed with Saturday's games being switched to noon and 3 p.m. The first pitch for Sunday's game is scheduled for noon.

The CCAA South Division leading Broncos, who are currently on a four-game winning streak, enter the week with a 19-9 overall record and an 11-6 mark in CCAA play after sweeping a three-game set with Cal State East Bay in Hayward.

The Otters, who sit in second place in the CCAA North Division, currently hold an overall mark at 21-6 with a 10-6 record in CCAA play. CSUMB is coming off a two-game sweep over Stanislaus State.

Both teams enter the week being ranked in the top 30 for Division II. The Otters check in at No. 19 and the Broncos currently sit at No. 28.

Last season, the two teams met for a four-game series in Seaside where CPP took three of four games. The all-time series also stands in favor of the Broncos as they have tallied a 25-19 record over the Otters.

Palomar J.C. transfer Chris Stratton continues to put together a strong rookie campaign for the Broncos as he is hitting .406 on the season. He leads the team in hits with 41 and runs scored at 25.

Outfielder Daniel Pitts is also swinging a hot bat as he is currently on a seven-game hitting streak. Over the course of that streak, he is 13-26 with two doubles, one home run and three RBI.

Senior southpaw Max Bethell continues to eat up innings for the Broncos as he has thrown 41.2 for the Broncos this season. Bethell logged win number three with an 8.1 inning performance against Cal State East Bay.

Upon completion of this series, the Broncos will take a break from CCAA play and will face the Azusa Pacific Cougars for one game on Tuesday, April 5 at 5 p.m. at the Cougars' Baseball Field. The Green and Gold will return to CCAA play against Stanislaus with a three-game series beginning on Saturday, April 9.

The return to CCAA competition will be held in Turlock at the Warriors' home field.

After the Broncos are in Turlock, another time change is in effect for CPP. When the Green and Gold host the Chico State Wildcats, the three-game series has been moved up to noon and 3 pm starts on Saturday, April 16 and then a noon start on Sunday, April 17.
