POMONA, Calif. – Ranked fifth in the West according to the first NCAA Division II Regional Rankings released on Wednesday, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team looks to clinch a playoff berth with its final two weeks of conference play.
As they lead the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) South Division, the Broncos have tallied a 19-10 record against conference opponents en route to a season tally of 27-14. They will be splitting the host duties this week with two games at Fiscalini Field, home of the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes, and two games at Scolinos Field.
On Thursday, the series opener will be played at CSUSB and is set to begin at 3 p.m. The Coyotes currently hold third in the CCAA South with a 20-21 overall record, complete with a 15-14 mark in conference play.
The all-time series between the two squads slightly favors the Coyotes as they have secured the victory in 67 contests and the Broncos have recorded 62 wins. In the 2015 CCAA opening series, the Green and Gold secured the series victory as they won three games to one.
CPP will be heading to Fiscalini Field after taking three of four games from the Cal State LA Golden Eagles last weekend.
The Coyotes will look to improve on their three game win-streak they have accumulated after the series victory over the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros.
Taking a glance at the CCAA South Division standings, the Broncos carry a 2.5 game lead over the UC San Diego Tritons who sit at 17-13 in conference after falling in two of three games against the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters.
The Coyotes then trail the Coyotes in third place. Just behind them are the CSUDH Toros, who will be the Broncos final challengers of the regular season, to be played next weekend. Rounding out the conference south is Cal State San Marcos and CSLA.
With his victory in the series finale against Cal State LA, junior righty
