SAN RAMON, Calif. - With another successful year of Bronco Athletics in the books, the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) released its 2016 Spring All-Academic Award list. The winners were released by the conference office in the middle of June.
Student-athletes must meet three criteria to be eligible for the award. They must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, have a 3.3 GPA or better, and they must have competed in a CCAA-sponsored sport in the spring.
For those schools that sponsor the sports, the award was given to men's golf, softball, baseball, men's track and field, and women's track and field. The Cal Poly Pomona Athletics Department sponsors baseball and track & field and with those sports, the Broncos had 28 honorees.
Baseball, with its third-place national finish and second-consecutive trip to Cary, N.C., had four squad members named to the list. Senior
Michael Erb, junior
Matthew Grier, and sophomores
Kohto Hasegawa and
Alex Kline received recognition.
Men's track and field, which finished fourth in the CCAA Championships and sent three men to Nationals in Florida, had eight members named to the list. Four of the honorees were part of the senior class as
Kyle Goodenough,
Michale Hamlin,
Adrian Ramirez, and
Austin van Biezen were named. With a junior academic standing were
Nicholas Mannino,
Justin Ogan, and
Gabriel Wirtz. The final men's track and field member named was sophomore
Kyle Miller.
With the largest number of honorees for the Broncos, women's track and field had 16 squad members named to the spring all-academic list.
Frances Barnes,

Marissa Nickles,
Nina Pritchett, and
Tiffany Tate were the five seniors earning accolades. From the junior class, the Broncos had
Symone Booker,
Melissa Chhem,
Danielle Foxvog,
Geanna Gallegos,
Deirdre Mercado,
Calene Morris,
Chloe Reeves, and
Sarah Regan, and the sophomore class featured
Micayla Anderson,
Leslie Perez Cazarez, and
Kimberly Schaefer.
The academic prowess of the CPP student-athletes ranges across many majors. The featured majors among the honorees are Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Graphic Design, Electrical Engineering, Liberal Studies, Kinesiology, Animal Science, Business Administration, Ethnic Studies, Biotechnology, Food Science, Foods and Nutrition, and Biology.
