@CPPVB to Host Azusa Pacific in Home Opener

POMONA, Calif. – After two weeks of competition away from home, the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team will play a pair of contests in Kellogg Arena this week.

The Broncos' home opener is Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Azusa Pacific. Free posters will be provided to all CPP fans in attendance. Then on Friday, the Broncos begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action with a 7 p.m. match against Humboldt State.

CPP owns a 4-4 record so far in 2016, having split four matches in Hawaii with a 2-2 mark and then following that up with the same result at the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase last weekend in La Jolla.

Through the first eight matches, the Broncos rank at No. 3 among CCAA teams in blocks per set with an average of 1.97. Three CPP student-athletes have averaged more than 0.80 blocks per set individually as that trio includes Kristen Hamlin (0.97), Alexandra Gresham (0.90) and Desi Martin (0.83).

Junior Samantha Figueroa was selected as the BroncoAthletics.com Athlete of the Week for her performances last weekend. Serving as the team's libero, Figueroa leads all CCAA players in digs with an average of 5.32 per set. Her season high in that category came in the season opener when she collected 29 digs against BYU Hawaii.

The Broncos' attack has been fueled by Deanna Blaine, Andrea Bosnic and Gresham. Blaine has averaged a team-best 2.90 kills per set while Bosnic owns a 2.58 mark and Gresham has added 2.50 kills per set.

Wednesday's opponent – APU – has posted a 3-5 record so far this season. Last weekend, the Cougars won three of their four matches at the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase held in Carson. APU topped CCAA teams Humboldt State and Cal State Dominguez Hills in that event.

Friday's opponent – HSU – owns a winning record of 5-3 this year. Competing in the same showcase location as APU, the Jacks split their four matches with wins over Montana State Billings and Hawaii Hilo.

Parking for Home Volleyball Matches
For tonight's home opener, the only parking option is Lot B (660 Kellogg Drive). Starting tomorrow (Sept. 15), the new Parking Structure 2 will be open and that will provide a second option of parking for home volleyball matches. Parking permits cost $7/day Monday through Friday and $4/day Saturday and Sunday.
