RIVERSIDE, Calif. -
Continuing its strong start to the 2016 season, the Cal Poly Pomona men's cross country team finished second out of 29 teams on Saturday morning at the UC Riverside Invitational.

The Broncos totaled 90 points through the 8,000-meter course, trailing only first-place Cal Poly SLO's 62 points. CPP, ranked at No. 10 in the latest NCAA Division II national poll, topped many Division I programs Saturday, including Utah Valley, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, Long Beach State and host UCR.

The second-place finish marks the Broncos' best performance at the UCR Invitational through the last two decades. Senior Mark Huizar led the way on Saturday, taking fifth individually out of the 392 runners competing. Huizar posted a mark of 24:09.8.

Ruben Dominguez proved to be CPP's next finisher, taking 15th at 24:30.3. Grant Stromberg and Christian Rodriguez put together impressive races, crossing the line at 24:34.4 and 24:39.9 respectively to finish 19th and 21st.
