CPP CCAA Preview Meet Results
ONTARIO, Calif. - Ranked ninth nationally heading into the 2016 season, the Cal Poly Pomona men's cross country team started competition with a first-place finish Friday in Ontario.
With the Broncos serving as the hosts of the CPP CCAA Preview Meet and collecting 23 points in the final results, conference rival UC San Diego took second with 63 points while Cal State San Marcos finished third at the 64-point mark.
Mark Huizar, a 2015 All-American, finished first individually after sprinting to the line and defeating Cal State San Marcos' top runner by one-tenth of a second. Five Broncos finished within the top 10 individually, including
Ruben Dominguez in third,
Christian Rodriguez fourth,
Grant Stromberg in fifth, and
Teague Senninger taking the No. 10 spot.
The primary purpose of the meet was to allow all of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) student-athletes an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park, which will also be the site of the conference championships in October.
Up next for the Broncos is the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 17.
