POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team will travel locally in Southern California this week as the Broncos take on Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
On Friday night, CPP will take on the Golden Eagles in Los Angeles. Then on Saturday, the Broncos travel to play the Toros in Carson. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
After a loss to Humboldt State on Friday in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener, CPP will look to capture its first conference win this week. So far in league play, L.A. is 1-1 while Dominguez Hills has started 0-2.
The Broncos have three players featured in the top 10 on the CCAA leaderboard for blocks. Sophomore
Desi Martin is averaging 1.0 blocks per set to rank at No. 3 on the list.
Alexandra Gresham ranks eighth while
Kristen Hamlin holds the No. 9 spot.
Junior
Samantha Figueroa, a South Pasadena native, leads all CCAA players in digs with an average of 5.18 per set. Fellow third-year
Alina Smith has shown consistency in setting, totaling 292 assists while also leading the team in service aces with nine.
After playing away from home for the next two weekends, the Broncos will host again on Saturday, Oct. 8 when Cal State San Bernardino visits for a 7 p.m. match. Then on Oct. 21, the Broncos will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills with the first 100 CPP students receiving a free tumbler courtesy of University Housing Services.

- With Parking Structure 2 now open, there are two options for parking at home volleyball matches. Lot B and Parking Structure 2 are the best places to park but be sure that you do not park in spots marked for residents. The Google address for Parking Structure 2 is 3851 W. Temple Ave., Pomona, CA and the Broncos' facility map can be found here. Parking permits cost $7/day Monday through Friday and $4/day Saturday and Sunday.
