Broncos Set for Semifinal Matchup with San Francisco State

POMONA – With San Francisco State upsetting UC San Diego 1-0 in the opening round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team have their semifinal match set as they take on the Gators on Friday, Nov. 4 at the Triton Soccer Stadium.

Last Week: Despite a 1-0 loss to end the regular season against Cal State San Bernardino, the Broncos earned a first-round bye in the CCAA tournament with a second overall finish in the conference in points per match, totaling 27 points overall.
 
By the Numbers: Sergi Monso concluded the regular season as the CCAA leader in goals scored with 18 and in total points as he added nine assists to total 45 points on the season. The Broncos finished with the top offense in the league, scoring seven more goals than second-place with 46 total while giving up the second fewest goals with 13.
 
Previous Matchup: Friday's match will be the second time this season these two teams have crossed paths with CPP picking up a 2-0 on the road. Monso opened the match with a score in the 22nd minute before assisting on an insurance goal in the second half as Dante Medina found the back of the net.
 
Gator Report: San Francisco State finished the regular season at 12-4-2 overall while going 6-4-2 in the CCAA to earn the sixth and final spot in the postseason tournament. The Gators have the second-best scoring average at 2.16, only second to CPP at 2.71. SFSU has tallied 39 goals while giving up only 17 on the season. The Gators would have to go back to the 2015 season to find their last win over the Broncos, defeating CPP 1-0 at home.
 
The winner of Friday's contest will play the winner of #1 Cal State Dominguez Hills and #4 Cal State Los Angeles for the tournament title on Sunday, Nov. 5.
