POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team picked up their first win of the season in dominating fashion, downing Biola University 82-64 on Tuesday night in their first game at Kellogg Arena.
The Broncos (1-2) held Biola to 38 percent from the field while tallying their third straight 70-plus point game, shooting 48 percent on the night.
Five CPP players finished in double-digit figures in points with
Crystal Malveaux leading the team with 14 points, going 7-of-9 from the field.
Chelsea Waddy-Blow followed with 13 points and tallied a team-high nine rebounds.
Tied 12-12 in the first quarter, the Broncos earned their first wave of the night, scoring eight straight points before taking a 20-14 advantage heading into the second quarter.
Priscilla Brooks collected 11 points and seven rebounds while
Jackie Ricketson ended with 12 points, six assists and four rebounds and
Casey McWilliam added 10 points of her own.
The Eagles kept the game close in the second quarter, outscoring the Broncos 20-16 in the period to enter the break with the score 36-34 in favor of the Broncos.
The Broncos pulled away again from Biola in the third quarter, taking their first double-digit lead at 54-43 with two minutes to go in the quarter before another run in the fourth gave CPP their largest lead of the night at 82-62.
CPP dominated down low, winning the rebounding margin 46-26 and finishing with 19 second-chance points.
The Broncos will travel on Saturday as they open up California Collegiate Athletic Association play on the road on against Stanislaus State on Nov. 18.
