Broncos Fall to Stanislaus 72-65 to Open the Conference Schedule

TURLOCK – The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team opened California Collegiate Athletic Association play in a 72-65 loss to Stanislaus State on the road on Saturday night.

With the loss, the Broncos move to 1-3 overall on the season and 0-1 in the CCAA.

Leading CPP was Casey McWilliam who finished with a team-high of 15 points, going 3-of-9 from the three-point line. Following her was Jackie Ricketson who finished with 11 points and five assists on the night.

The Broncos jumped out to an early 11-2 lead over Stanislaus, as Ricketson opened the scoring with a three-pointer to start the game. The Warriors battled back, ending the first quarter tied 17-17.

The first half remained close as neither team led by more than two points until a late shot by Stanislaus gave the Warriors a 36-32 lead over CPP.

Chelsea Waddy-Blow added nine points and 10 rebounds while Alyssa Benton finished with six points and 10 rebounds of her own.

The Warriors pulled away in the third quarter, taking their first double-digit lead at 45-34 before heading into the fourth quarter with a 59-51 advantage.

CPP shot 29 percent from the field while Stanislaus finished the game shooting 38 percent.

The Broncos outrebounded the Warriors 51-43 and finished with 19 second-chance points but couldn't overcome the deficit late.

The Broncos return to Kellogg Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 21 as they take on the University of La Verne in a non-conference game.
