POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team looks to get back on the winning side of things this week as they prepare for a three-game series against Point Loma starting on Thursday, Feb. 9, at Scolinos Field.
The Broncos (2-5) will travel to Point Loma on Saturday for one game before completing the series at home the following Monday.
Last Week: The Broncos' youth came out last weekend with a few mental errors as CPP lost two games in a double-header against Concordia-Irvine 5-3 and 5-4.
Quick Hits: The Broncos are 1-1 in series wins so far this season as they work to put everything together before conference play starts at the end of the month.
Transfers
Jeff Bain and
Kyle Dohy saw early success in their first appearance on the mound against UC – Colorado Springs last week. Bain threw five innings giving up only two hits with eight strikeouts while Dohy picked up the win going 4 1/3 innings with zero hits and seven strikeouts in the second game of the series.
At the plate,
Cody Martin,
Nic Hernandez and
Jason Padlo have led the way for the Broncos. Martin has tallied five hits on eight at bats and has three RBIs while Padlo is 9-of-18 with two RBIs and Hernandez (.357) has tallied three RBIs off five hits.
Chris Stratton (.267) leads the team in runs with five and has three stolen bases so far this season.

-The Sea Lions split a four game series with Chico State, losing the first two before ending the series with two straight wins to enter the weekend at 2-2
-In the PacWest Preseason Poll, Point Loma was selected to finish fourth in the final regular season standings
-Kellen Sheppard is batting .357 for Point Loma and has a team high four RBIs.
