POMONA, Calif. –Back in the NCBWA West Region rankings once again, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team returns to action this week as they prepare for a pivotal CCAA South Division series with UC San Diego.

The four-game series begins on the road for the Broncos as they compete at UCSD on Thursday and Friday before closing out with a doubleheader at Scolinos field on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Looking to jump into that first-place spot in the South standings, the Broncos sit just behind the Tritons in second-place with an overall record of 18-16, going 14-10 in the CCAA.

After last weekend's series win over East Bay, the Broncos are ranked ninth in the West Region poll. CPP is the top hitting team in the CCAA with a combined batting average of .299. CPP also ranks first in total hits with 357, fourth in stolen bases (42) and fifth in runs scored (202).

Leading the way at the plate in
Jason Padlo who boasts the fifth highest BA in the league at .390. Behind him are
Daniel Pitts at .366 and
Nic Hernandez at .348.

On the mound,
Henry Omana continues as the CCAA strikeout leader with 61 total strikeouts while
Jeff Bain sits in a tie for third with 56 strikeouts and
Kyle Dohy ranks fifth with 53. Bain picked up his fourth win after pitching the first complete game of the season to win game one vs. East Bay 4-3. Bain and Dohy lead the Broncos with four wins each.

In their previous matchup with UCSD, the Broncos came away with a 9-6 victory in the semifinals of the CCAA conference tournament.

About UC San Diego:
-The Tritons hold an overall record of 24-7, going 16-5 in the CCAA and sit and first-place in the South Standings and second in the overall standings.
-UCSD ranks fourth in batting average at .295 and second in ERA at 2.98.
-The Tritons have scored 213 runs with 187 RBIs but rank eighth in total hits with 305.
-UCSD's Preston Mott leads the pitching staff with an ERA of 2.65.
