Women's Cross Country Takes Second In Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Anahi Betart crossed the finish line in a time of 22:50.5 to place sixth out of 69 runners, leading the Cal Poly Pomona women's cross country team to a runner-up finish out of seven teams at the Festival Year Fiasco 6K on Saturday, hosted by the University of Southern Indiana at Angel Mounds State Park in Evansville, Ind.

The Broncos have placed in the Top 5 in three of their four races this fall, including a team title at the Redlands Invitational to open the season back on Sept. 1. Saturday's race was the final tune up for CPP before the 2018 CCAA Cross Country Championships in San Bernardino in two weeks.
 
Betart was the top Cal Poly Pomona runner for the second straight meet, placing ahead of Elizabeth Hernandez, who came in ninth with a time of 23:25.6. Luz Garcia captured 13th place after running the course in 23:41.9, Jennifer Osorio-Melendez was 18th with a time of 23:59.5, Elli Kliewer (24:00.1) came in sixth-tenths of a second later for 19th place, Sierra Boyd placed 21st with a 24:11.6 and Samantha Aguilar (24:44.7) was 32nd.

Three other Broncos took part in the Titan Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton on Friday evening -- Amy Kohlbrenner crossed the line in 20:04.96 to finish the 5K race in 56th place out of 136 runners, Kate Manzke placed 63rd with a time of 20:18.62, and Taylor Otto came in 68th posting a time of 20:25.99.  Official results from the Titan Invite can be found HERE.

Cal Poly Pomona will converge on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino for a second time this season when it takes part in the 2018 CCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 3rd. Race time is set for 10:00 am.
