Broncos Fall in Series Finale at UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Despite nine hits, five of which were doubles, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team suffered a 12-6 loss Sunday to conclude a four-game road set at UC Colorado Springs to open the 2019 season.

The Broncos fell to 1-3 overall with the result while the Mountain Lions improved to 3-1. Three CPP student-athletes tallied a multi-hit performance Sunday with Christian Moya, Nic Hernandez and Ryon Knowles collecting two hits apiece.

The two squads put together a pitching duel through the first five innings as UCCS held a slight 2-0 edge before the offenses started coming alive. With an RBI double from Moya and an RBI single by Hernandez, the Broncos evened the score at 2-2 in the sixth inning.

The Mountain Lions took the momentum right back though in the bottom of the sixth as a grand slam put UCCS back in front 6-2. CPP produced four runs in the final three innings, including a solo homer by Moya, but the Broncos couldn't slow down the Mountain Lions as the home squad wrapped up a 12-6 result.

CPP will return to Pomona to host Hope International Friday for the team's home opener at Scolinos Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
