CPP Rebounds With Saturday Sweep Of Stanislaus

POMONA -- Austin Isenhart tossed a complete-game gem in game one and Patrick Flynn smashed two home runs in game two as the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team earned two victories on Saturday over Stanislaus State with scores of 5-3 and 3-2 at Scolinos Field in Pomona.

The Broncos rise to 19-22 overall, moving into seventh place in the CCAA at 17-18, one half game behind Chico State (14-14).  The Warriors (23-16 overall) fall from third place to fourth in the conference standings with a 19-14 mark in league play.

In the opener, Isenhart threw 123 pitches to secure his complete-game win, allowing just five hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out a season-high 10 batters, improving to 6-4 on the year.  Meanwhile, five different Broncos had a RBI in the contest, none of which were Nic Hernandez, who led with three hits on the day.

In the nightcap, Drew Atherton made just his second start of the year and allowed five hits and two runs in his 5.1 innings, striking out one to earn his first-career win on the mound.  Chris Burnette and Darin May worked the final 1.2 innings and didn't allow a run or a hit.  May was credited with his fourth save of the year.

Offensively, Flynn smashed two bombs to left field, one in the second inning (solo home run) and another in the fourth (two-run home run) accounting for all three of the Broncos' runs in the one-run victory.

Cal Poly Pomona and Stanislaus State wraps up the four game series Sunday at 12:00 pm.
