POMONA – Cal Poly Pomona hosted their last preseason match against the Azusa Pacific Cougars. A penalty kick late in the game put the Cougars over the top, handing the Broncos the loss, 1-2.
The game was tied at the half, with no points on the board. APU was the first to hit the net, as they scored on the 66
th minute. Defender
Sydney Contrestano scored in the 83
rd minute off of a double assist by midfielder

Bridget Carbonneau. With six minutes of playing time left, the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick that gave them the lead and win, 2-1. The Broncos overall record is now 1-4-1.

"The team worked really hard tonight" said coach
Jay Mason. "I am proud of their effort, but we missed a couple of details that ended up hurting us today. The game is not won and lost in the 18-yard box and today we came up on the short end. I am proud of the groups response after conceding the goal, but we need to lock down in the last five to six minutes."
Coach Mason continued, "I think non-conference schedule has prepared us for conference play so I am excited to get that part of the season started."
The Broncos begin CCAA conference competition next week when they host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, September 23rd at 4:30 pm to kick off the double header.
