Zapata Placed Second in Decathlon at Kamaka Invite

WALNUT, Calif. – The Cal Poly Broncos sent Gavin Hanes and Gabriel Zapata to compete in the decathlon at the Mt. San Antonio College Kamaka Invitational.
 
Finishing in second, Zapata scored 5893 points over ten events. Zapata won the 110 meter hurdle with at time of 15.59 and the pole vault with a height of 10' 7.5". He also improved on his personal best in the shot put with a new distance of 11.41 meters. At the close of the weekend, Zapata is ranked 7th place nationally in the 110 meter hurdle and 10th in the javelin throw.
 
Hanes closed the weekend meet with 4959 points. His best finish was second in the 110 meter hurdle with a time of 16.00 and second in the pole vault for a height of 10' 3.5". Hanes stands 17th nationally in the high jump and 19th in the shot put.
 
The Broncos compete in the Beach Opener this weekend, March 3rd – 4th in Long Beach.
