Cal-Nevada Results

As the NCAA Division II Track and Field season reaches the halfway point, Cal Poly Pomona already has made a few statements nationwide. All good with plenty of time remaining to improve.

Senior All-American Jonathan Williams boasts the 4th fastest 100-meter time in the country this spring with his 10.59 effort at the Cal Nevada Championships, held last weekend at UCLA. The Temecula native finished with the second-fastest time in the preliminaries (10.59) and went on to finish 3rd in 10.69 seconds.

Junior Carter Griffin created a stir when the Anaheim native ran the fastest prelim time in the 400, cruising the Drake Stadium field in 47.72 seconds, good enough for an NCAA provisional standard.

One day later, Griffin dropped his time to 47.65 and finished third. That time ranks 8th fastest in the country.

Michael Hernandez, who was the CCAA Male Athlete of the Week for the week of March 22nd, ranks 4th in the country with his personal-best total of 6,654 at the Cal State Northridge Multis. He established seven season-bests in the two-day event that included a 15-1 effort in the pole vault.

For the women, Tokunbo Adeniji earned an NCAA provisional mark of 55.33 in the 400 and placed 5th. She ran 55.84 in the prelims, then dropped her time by more than half a second. She is just .33 seconds off the qualifying standard of 55.00.

Tramieka Thomas continues to be a bright spot for Johnson's women's team. The Ontario native owns the 14th best time in the 100-meter hurdles, owning a personal-best time of 14.54 seconds at the Trojan Invite. Last season, she earned a provisional mark in the triple jump.

Senior Amanda Smith ranks 17th in the country in the heptathlon. She earned 4,309 points -- just less than 700 from a provisional mark of 4,400. She needs 5,000 points to hit the qualifying standard.

Senior Amber Hebb has been solid in the 1,500 this spring. Her personal-best 4:40.36 at USC is two seconds off the provisional standard.

Junior Ileana Tejada is 12th in the country in the hammer throw with a heave of 161-5 -- one foot off the provisional standard.

Both Broncos teams are idle this week.
