Broncos, Toros to Meet in Semifinal Round

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team has already set plenty of program records through the 2014 season.

From highest national ranking to most shutouts to largest number of wins, the list goes on. Now, the Broncos are focused on the next goal: attaining the program's first playoff victory.

CPP has made one previous appearance in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships and one previous appearance in the NCAA postseason. Combined record in those two events? 0-2.

The 2014 Broncos' squad returns to action on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. CCAA semifinal matchup against Cal State Dominguez Hills. That round and the final round will be played in Turlock on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus.

Last Thursday, Oct. 30, CPP captured the league's regular season crown with a home win over Cal State L.A. on Senior Night at Kellogg Field. It marked the school's first-ever men's soccer CCAA title. A first-round bye pushed the Broncos directly into Friday's semifinal matchup.

In the conference championships banquet on Thursday evening in Turlock, CPP was presented with the regular season banner and plaque.

The Broncos nearly swept all of the major awards as well, with Yossi Raz earning Coach of the Year honors, Jose Ortega being named Defensive Player of the Year and Christian Gonzalez Diaz picking up both the Newcomer of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year accolades.

All of this weekend's matches will have playoff implications when it comes to the NCAA postseason as well. The NCAA Division II Tournament field will be announed on Monday and the top six West Region squads will advance. In the latest rankings released Wednesday, CPP continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the region.

Every match of the semifinal rounds and Sunday's championship games will be available via Live Stats as well as live on WarriorTV.
