Desi Martin Signs With Broncos Volleyball

POMONA, Calif. - After helping Westview High School finish as a Southern California State Finalist in 2013 and going on to earn All-Palomar League Honorable Mention accolades in 2014, Desi Martin has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Cal Poly Pomona following her 2015 high school graduation.

Broncos' head coach Rosie Wegrich announced the signing of Martin on Tuesday.

"We're really excited to have Desi join the team," said Wegrich. "She came to one of our camps and we've kept our eye on her since. Her ability as a high jumper shows a tremendous level of athleticism and versatility. She can play multiple positions on the court, and with the graduation of two of our hitters this year, we believe her versatility will be a huge help."

A native to San Diego, the high school senior will be a welcome addition to the Broncos' roster. Her senior year saw her collect 114 kills, 49 blocks, and 28 aces in the Wolverines' 19-11 season, which included an 8-2 in their conference play.

To add on to her success on the volleyball court, the 6-foot-1 senior has also achieved some impressive numbers in the track and field realm. During both the 2013 and 2014 seasons, she was the Palomar League Champion in the high jump, and landed as the seventh-best high jumper in San Diego County.

She plans to major in Zoology with a minor in Biology in her time at CPP, with hopes of becoming a Research Zoologist.

Martin is the Broncos' first signee of the 2015-16 class.

Cal Poly Pomona volleyball finished the 2014 season with an overall tally of 15-10, good for a 13-9 finish in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
