Ellerbee Selected as Academic All-American

POMONA, Calif. – A well-rounded student-athlete who has balanced success in the classroom and in competition, Cal Poly Pomona junior Justin Ellerbee is now an NCAA Division II Academic All-American.

Across all sports, Ellerbee becomes the 10th Bronco to receive the Academic All-America accolade and the first men's track and field student-athlete in that group. The Rocklin native placed fifth in the pole vault at the 2014 NCAA D-II National Championships in Allendale, Mich. He also has maintained a 3.72 grade point average while studying aerospace engineering.

In Wednesday's announcement released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Ellerbee was featured on the Academic All-America Second Team. Three other student-athletes from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) received the same accolade: Clint Rosser and Kellen Levy of UC San Diego along with William Hilton of Cal State Stanislaus.

On the final day of the CCAA Championships in early May, Ellerbee broke the conference championship record for pole vault with a height of 17-5 while helping the CPP men's track and field team to a third-place finish at the postseason event. Just two days later, he was named the Cal Poly Pomona Male Co-Athlete of the Year.

The 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Men's Track & Field/Cross Country first, second and third teams were comprised of 45 standout student-athletes. Grand Valley State led the listing with five selections on the three teams, followed by four selections from West Texas A&M.
