Broncos Set for Rematch Against Dixie

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team will continue its homestand Saturday as it hosts Dixie State for a 1 p.m. showdown at Kellogg Field. For CPP, it'll be the final non-conference game of the regular season.

The Broncos own a 4-1 overall record with the only loss coming at Dixie State on Sept. 6. So far in 2014, CPP is 4-0 at Kellogg Field while outscoring opponents 12-1 in those games.

Kellogg Field was full of action last Sunday as the Broncos saw two of their upperclassmen score their first goals of the season in a 3-0 defeat of Regis. Junior Ariana Fleischman notched the Broncos' second goal of the day while adding her name to the growing list of CPP goal scorers in 2014. Later in the game, Allie Maxwell also added her name to the list.

CPP's first goal was scored by Melissa Martinez, who has matched Amanda Gomez for the team lead in goals with three apiece. On Sunday, the Broncos entered halftime with a 1-0 lead over the Regis Rangers. The final score of the game was 3-0 as the Bronco defense was effective at shutting down the Rangers, limiting Regis to just one shot on goal.

So far in 2014, Saturday's opponent - Dixie State - has a record of 1-2-1 and holds a 0-2 record on the road. Both of those losses came against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) teams in Cal State LA and Cal State San Bernardino.

On Friday, Sept. 26 - the second day of the Broncos' academic Fall Quarter - conference play will start with CPP soccer hosting Cal State San Bernardino for a doubleheader. The women's game will start at 4:30 p.m. and the men's game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
