Men's Soccer Sets Records with 2-0 Win

POMONA, Calif. – The season is still young but the 2014 Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team has already entered the program's record book.

With a 2-0 win at Cal Baptist Saturday, the Broncos improved to 4-0-1 for the best start in school history. It also marks the five-consecutive shutout, setting a program best for that streak as well.

CPP put the pressure on the Lancers from start to finish and ended up with a 21-11 shot advantage. Broncos' goalkeeper Fernando Pablo Quevedo continues to play well and totaled four saves Saturday.

"I am very proud of the team's effort today," said head coach Yossi Raz. "The demand of the recent schedule was evident but the players managed to push through and the desired result was achieved against a quality team."

After a 0-0 score going into halftime, Alexander Turkson got CPP on the board with a goal in the 48th minute. Daniel Garcia Jr. lined a cross into the box and Turkson finished with a one-timer to the back of the net.

That 1-0 edge stayed the same until the 87:51 mark. Garcia Jr. and Turkson combined for a pair of passes and the ball ended up at the feet of Ian Trantow, who slotted it past the CBU keeper for an insurance score and 2-0 advantage for the visitors.

Raz said: "We have little time to prepare for a difficult challenge versus Point Loma, but we are eager to get on the field in front of our community."

The Broncos' men's soccer team returns home to play Point Loma on Tuesday, kickoff is scheduled for 6:30pm.
