ESPN3 to Broadcast CPP Road Game in February

POMONA, Calif. – With the rivalry of Cal Poly Pomona and Chico State drawing the attention of ESPN, the "Worldwide Leader in Sports" has chosen to produce an ESPN3 broadcast of the Feb. 19 basketball doubleheader in Chico.

ESPN3 is a streaming service that provides live streams of global sports events to sports fans in the United States, Australia, Brazil, Chile, the Middle East, New Zealand and Europe.

On that Feb. 19 night in Art Acker Gymnasium, the women's basketball game will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. For fans unable to attend the ESPN3 games in Chico, there will be a viewing party held at the Bronco Student Center.

CPP and Chico know each other well, having been through numerous showdowns at the postseason level in recent years.

"We're looking forward to showcasing CCAA men's and women's basketball on ESPN3 in February," said Mike Matthews, commissioner of the California Collegiate Athletic Association. "The Conference races will be coming down to the wire and fans will see some exciting basketball, the best the West has to offer."

On the men's side, the Broncos and Wildcats are both featured in the NCAA Division II Top 25 rankings. CPP is at No. 5 while Chico is listed at No. 22. The two teams met in last year's CCAA Tournament title game, when the Broncos prevailed 62-57 in overtime.

"It should be a high-level game and it's great to be recognized by ESPN," CPP men's basketball head coach Greg Kamansky said. "I'm sure both sides are excited and there will be a huge crowd in Chico to make it even more fun."

For women's basketball, CPP was picked to finish fifth in the conference while the Wildcats were featured at the No. 7 spot. With the Broncos having just won three of their last four games and Chico holding a 4-2 mark so far this season, Feb. 19 is certainly a date to circle for another marquee matchup in CCAA women's basketball.

"Anytime we can get this level of recognition for our sport and our conference is a great opportunity," Broncos' women's basketball head coach Danelle Bishop said. "It'll be special for our student-athletes to be a part of the big-game atmosphere with the spotlight being a bit brighter."

The Feb. 19 doubleheader will part of CPP's final regular season road trip of the season before the teams return home to host the Feb. 27 Homecoming games against Cal State San Marcos. To learn more about the Homecoming festivities, go to www.cpp.edu/homecoming.
