Broncos' Track & Field Celebrates Senior Day

WALNUT, Calif. - In front of family, friends and other fans Saturday, the Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team put together a series of impressive performances at the Pomona Preview Meet on Senior Day.

The event was hosted by CPP and held at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College. Also competing were Cal State L.A., UC San Diego, Mt. SAC and San Bernardino Valley College.

Senior Tiffany Gray moved up in the Broncos' track and field record book, posting a 47-3.5 "B" provisional mark in the shot put to take first Saturday. She's now third all-time in that event for CPP and her Saturday mark was the university's best distance since 1995. The Broncos actually swept the top three spots in that event with Tiffany Tate and Nina Pritchett following in second and third with marks of 43-1 and 40-11.5.

Gray, a Placentia native, also excelled in the discus event Saturday. Placing first with a mark of 139-11, she's now eighth all-time in that event. Gray wrapped up her day with a second-place finish in the hammer.

Sophomore Sarah Regan, a Rosemead native, starred in the hurdles as she placed first in the 400-meter event at 1:03.29 and then took second in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.09. Regan's 400-meter hurdles time of 1:03.29 puts her at No. 10 on the Broncos' all-time leaderboard for that event.

Lizette Huerta added another first-place finish for the Broncos as she led the 3,000-meter event at 10:08.82, which also ranks 10th all-time in school history for that event. Fellow distance runner Symone Booker finished second overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.33.

The 4x100 relay team finished second with a mark of 48.76 as that relay was led off by senior Araya Dixon and anchored by fellow fourth-year Isis Garland. Dixon raced well in the individual events as well, taking first in the 200-meter dash at 25.49 and then second in the 100-meter dash, tallying a 12.18 time. That 100-meter mark fell just shy of the Broncos' all-time top 10 leaderboard.

Reigning CCAA Athlete of the Week, senior Regina Lopez, placed second in the 1,500-meter run as she crossed the line in 4:42.44. In the long jump, Kendahl Gaines took third with a distance of 17-3.5.

The Broncos will return to action on Friday with day one of the Cal State L.A. Invite.
