LA JOLLA & BERKELEY, Calif. - Led by throwers
Tiffany Tate and
Nina Pritchett, the Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team put together stellar performances while competing in a wide range of events on Friday and Saturday at UC San Diego and UC Berkeley.
At the Triton Invitational hosted at UC San Diego,
Nina Pritchett excelled in the shot put and discus. She recorded a shot put distance of 42-11.75, which places her at No. 11 all-time in the Broncos' record book. She performed just as well – if not better – in the discus. In that event, she posted a mark of 149-3 to improve her "B" provisional qualifier and move up to No. 6 all-time for CPP.
Tiffany Tate launched a javelin throw 138-11, moving up to No. 26 nationally in that event. That mark gave her 12th place individually at UCSD.
Among the CPP sprinters that competed at the Brutus Hamilton Open hosted by UC Berkeley,
Kendahl Gaines starred in the 400-meter dash. She posted a time of 56.45 to narrowly miss a "B" provisional mark while still moving up to No. 7 on the Broncos' all-time leaderboard.
Also at Cal,
Mariah Richards-Maynard finished second in her heat for the 100-meter hurdles as she posted a stellar time of 14.77.Â
The Broncos will compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Track & Field Championships this coming week, April 30 through May 2 at San Francisco State.
