POMONA, Calif. – For the first time in six years, the Cal Poly Pomona cross country teams will host the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships this Saturday.
The men's 8,000-meter race will start at 10 a.m. and the women's 6,000-meter race begins at 11 a.m. The entire event will be held at Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park located at 800 North Archibald Avenue in Ontario. Fans are encouraged to download the "Finished Results Live" smartphone app for real-time results. The final results will also be posted on
FinishedResults.com.
The course is fan friendly, considering that the runners will do multiple loops and most of the action can be seen from the start/finish area. There are also several gazebos to gain some shade. Saturday's forecast anticipates a high of 90 degrees with sunny skies.
Although tickets are free, the County of San Bernardino issues a $10 fee for each vehicle entering the park. Carpooling is encouraged and CPP students, faculty and staff can sign up for free bus transportation at
broncoathletics.com/bus.
The Broncos' most recent hosting responsibilities for cross country came in 2010 when the event was held in Whittier. CPP finished second that year for both the men and the women.
Year in Review
In the latest regional rankings for 2016, the Broncos' men's cross country team is featured at No. 2 behind conference rival Chico State. In the most recent national poll for men's cross country, CPP is featured at No. 5. On the women's side, CPP is ranked 10th regionally and fourth among the CCAA programs. Conference teams featured in the regional poll are Chico State, UC San Diego and Humboldt State.

Christian Rodriguez have taken the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the Broncos' all-time leaderboard for the 8,000-meter leaderboard. For the Broncos' women,
Calene Morris is now featured at No. 2 on the program's ranking for the 6,000-meter distance. .
Looking Ahead
Beyond Saturday's CCAA Championships, the next postseason meet will be the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 5 in Billings, Mont. The top five men's teams and the top six women's squads from that event will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships on Nov. 19 in Saint Leo, Fla.
