POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team competed this weekend at both the Occidental Distance Carnival at Occidental College and the Ben Brown Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
With a ninth-place overall finish in the 5,000 meter event,
Lizette Huerta led the CPP women with a provisional qualifying time of 16:59.0. That mark ranks at No. 3 on the Broncos' all-time leaderboard and it's the fastest time for CPP since 1987.
Five other members of the Green and Gold squad competed in the 5,000-meter event.
Marissa Nickles finished second for the Broncos with a time of 17:40.24.
Ben Brown Invitational
Kalin Tomlinson, a newcomer to the CPP Track & Field Team ran for a second place finish in the 800 meter event with a 2:22.78 finish, she led DII competitors in her heat.
Anahi Betart was just behind her with a 2:24.45 fourth place finish of her own.
In the 1 miled run
Layla Amiri finished in the lead in her heat with a 5:24.54 time. Betart came in just under six seconds behind her in the event, followed immediately by
Sydney Vollhardt,
Ashley Espinoza, and a few runners later
Xochitl Robles and
Leslie Perez Cazarez.
In the Women's 200 meter dash,
Marcela Desir finished at No. 4 with a time of 25.86. Also competing in the race were
Tai Crumsey,
Sandra Marquez, and
Deirdre Mercado. The team of Crumsey, Marquez,
Danielle Foxvog, and
Olivia Lowe ran for a fourth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.
Tiffany Tate tossed for 44.36 meters in the javelin and finished second in the event.
Hannah Stueve, Mercado, and
Adi Oz all competed in the pole vault and Stueve led the way for CPP with a height of 3.40 meters reached.
