Redlands Invite Features Top Marks by CPP


REDLANDS, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team excelled at the Redlands Invite on Friday night. The Broncos' throwers led the field in all of the their events.
 
Tiffany Tate secured her second provisional of the season with a first-place finishing 14.11 meter throw in the shot put. Her distance also secures her the No. 1 spot in all of NCAA D-II throwers thus far. The provisional toss was the senior's career best in the throw, topping her previous best by nearly a full meter. Tate also secured first place in the javelin with a 43.06 meter throw, besting the second-place finisher by four meters.
 
In the discus, the Broncos' combo of Nina Pritchett and Tate made for a one-two punch as the two seniors finished in the top two spots, respectively. Pritchett's throw was a 41.77 meter toss, just behind her, Tate came in with another career-best with her 40.16 meter throw.
 
Closing out the throwing events, Pritchett notched her career-best in the hammer throw with a first-place finishing 43.06 meter throw.
 
Three of the Broncos' vaulters finished in the top-five in the pole vault event. Hannah Stueve led the way for the Green and Gold with a third-place earning 3.34 meter vault. Behind her and taking fourth and fifth in the event were both Frances Barnes and Adi Oz.
 
Marcela Desir finished third among D-II competitors and fifth overall in the 100 meter dash. She also finished second among D-II athletes and sixth overall in the 200 meter dash. Sandra Marquez placed third in the 400 meter dash.
 
In the 800 meter event CPP finished three runners at No. 2, 3, and 4. Symone Booker led the squad and D-II competitors with a 2:22.04 finish for her second-place bid. Kalin Tomlinson came in just behind her at third and Olivia Lowe posted a fourth-place finish.
 
The Broncos had seven runners compete in the 1,500 meter event and the squad was led by the fourth-place finishing Booker.
 
Araceli Servin won the 3,000 meter steeplechase, topping the second-place finisher by nearly 18 seconds.
 
CPP will next compete in the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State on March 25 through 26.
