LOS ANGELES – With provisional qualifiers from a pair of seniors, the Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team excelled during the two days of competition at the Cal State L.A. Invite.
Tiffany Tate placed first in the javelin, outpacing the second-place finisher by 21 feet. Tate's provisional qualifying mark of 147-8 put her at No. 7 on the Broncos' all-time leaderboard and stands as the program's top distance since 1988.
Tate also starred in the shotput, taking second with a career-best distance of 44-6.75. That moves her up to No. 7 on the CPP leaderboard for that event. Teammate

Lizette Huerta put together a memorable performance in the 1,500-meter event, crossing the line in 4:28.05 to set a personal best while placing third individually and earning a provisional qualifier. It also represented CPP's top mark since 1986 and moved Huerta up to No. 3 on the Broncos' all-time leaderboard.
