CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team competed in the 30th Annual Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday in Claremont.
In the women's 1500-meter race,
Marissa Nickles led the way for CPP with a time of 4:39.94. She finished at the No. 15 spot and just behind her in the No. 17 slot was
Lizette Huerta with a time of 4:40.71.
There were 11 other Broncos that competed in the 1,500-meter race. Joining Huerta and Nickles were
Casey Monoszlay,
Symone Booker,
Calene Morris,
Lorraine Fernandez,
Anahi Betart,
Ashli Baddorf,
Elizabeth Olvera,
Layla Amiri,
Xochitl Robles,
Sydney Vollhardt, and
Taylor Otto.
In the 100-meter race, the CPP's lone competitor was
Marcela Desir. She finished with a final time of 12.61 in the event.
The Green and Gold pair of
Sandra Marquez and
Kendahl Gaines raced in the the 400-meter event, clocking in with times of 59.60 and 60.55, repectively.
CPP also competed in the 800-meter race and the Broncos were led by
Danielle Foxvog. She crossed the line with a time of 2:21.95. Also running in the event were
Symone Booker,
Olivia Lowe, and
Kalin Tomlinson.
Desir and Marquez ran in the 200-meter race for the Broncos. Desir led the pair with a mark of 25.76, good for a finish at No. 11. Marquez's final time was 26.86.
Araceli Servin was the lone member of the Green and Gold that competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and her final time was 11:30.5. Also the only Bronco in her event, Micayla Andersen finished the 5,000-meter race with a time of 20:34.83.
In the field portion of the meet,
Deirdre Mercado and
Frances Barnes competed in the pole vault event. Mercado led the pair as she cleared a height of 3.40 meters. In the triple jump event,
Kimberly Schaefer was the only member of the CPP team in competition and reached a distance of 9.67 meters.
Over to the throws, the Broncos' duo of
Tiffany Tate and
Nina Pritchett represented the squad well. Pritchett came in at No. 13 in the hammer throw with a distance of 41.33 meters. Tate placed seventh in the javelin with a 42.54 distance.
In the shotput, Tate placed third as she threw 13.75 meters and Pritchett locked in ninth in the event. Pritchett secured fourth in the discus with a distance of 39.85 and Tate came in just a few spots back.
The Broncos' next meet will be the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific on April 15.
