Broncos to Battle with Warriors in Turlock!

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team heads into the final five weeks of conference play this weekend with a three-game series against the Stanislaus State Warriors. The series will take place at the Warriors' home field in Turlock.

CPP's squad thus far leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) South Division with a 13-7 record in conference play. The Green and Gold have amassed a 21-11 record overall on the season. The hosting Warriors currently hold a total mark of 16-14, complete with an 8-11 showing against CCAA opposition.

Saturday's series-opening doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m. The probable matchups for the two squads include game-one starts from Michael Koval and Jordan Kron of the Stanislaus squad. Koval, the CCAA's Pitcher of the Week last week, has thus far secured a 5-1 showing with a 1.97 Earned Run Average (ERA). Kron holds a 5-3 record and a 2.88 ERA.

The second game probable starters are Max Bethell and Nick Voumard. Bethell, one of the Broncos' co-captains this season holds a 4-3 record and an ERA of 2.34. His performance through his four years as a Bronco have landed him at a few spots in the CPP record books. He is currently tied for seventh in career wins with 24, tied for the No. 10 spot with 56 appearances, tied for sixth with 42 starts, and holds the No. 10 spot with 279 innings pitched. Starting for the Warriors with a 4-3 record and a 4.39 ERA is to be Voumard.

Neither team has locked in a starter for the third game of the series.

Taking a peek back into last season, the two squads split the four-game series held at Scolinos Field. The Broncos took the first and last games, while the Stan team took the middle two. The final game of the series was senior day for CPP and the Broncos won the contest 7-0.

All-time, the Broncos hold the advantage, having won 49 games to the Warriors' 32.

The Broncos head into Saturday's doubleheader looking to bounce back from the two losses they received on Sunday and Tuesday. Stanislaus is coming off of an 11-8 victory, but an overall 1-2 series loss to the UC San Diego Tritons.
