POMONA, Calif. – Since the culmination of the 2015 season, Cal Poly Pomona volleyball has added a number of new student-athletes to the team. Last year, the Broncos advanced to the first-ever California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament and reached the second round.
Three of the newcomers to the Broncos in the 2016 season will be Natalia Perry, Kyla Washko, and Kalea Vizmanos, with all three entering their first year at Cal Poly Pomona as freshmen.
NATALIA PERRY
Natalia Perry joins the Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team as a freshman in the 2016 season. The 5-foot-11 middle blocker is set to graduate from Lake Oswego High School in June and has played for LOHS varsity volleyball since her sophomore season.
She was named All-League First Team in both her junior and senior seasons with the Lakers and was twice named the Athlete of the Week. In her senior season, she hit .322 on 609 swings.
Perry joins the Broncos as a standout in the classroom, having been named to the Honor Roll all four years in high school. She is also a member of the National Honors Society. While undecided in her major, she aspires to either go into the medical field or start her own business.
KYLA WASHKO
A decorated student-athlete both on and off the court, Kyla Washko joins the CPP squad for the start of her college career in 2016. The 5-foot-6 outside hitter and freshman is a native of Temecula and will graduate from Temecula Valley High School in 2016.
For her on the court performances, she was named the team MVP in 2012, Best All-Around Player in 2013, twice named the Player of the Match in 2015, and was selected as the Varsity Captain for her senior campaign.
In the classroom, Washko was a six-time recipient of the Academic Achievement Award. She plans to work towards a degree in Apparel Merchandising and Management at Cal Poly Pomona and aspires to succeed in whichever field she chooses.
KALEA VIZMANOS
Another freshman to join the Broncos' squad in 2016, Kalea Vizmanos is set to graduate from Vista Murrieta High School in June. She will find work as a setter for the Broncos in the upcoming 2016 season.
The 5-foot-7 native of Murrieta is a four-time Beach Cities Invitational Tournament Champion. She also was the 40th Annual AAU Division Winner and was published in the 2014 edition of The Best Volleyball Players of AAU.
An Honor Roll student at Vista Murrieta, Vizmanos received the Outstanding Accomplishment & Excellence Award in the World Language Department. Her major is thus far undeclared, but she aspires to own her own sports training and physical therapy business, with which she hopes to make an impact in her community leading a female-owned business.
