Huerta Captures CCAA 1500 Meter Title Saturday



LOS ANGELES - Lizette Huerta's victory in the 1500-meter run highlighted the final day of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships hosted by Cal State LA. Overall in the Championships, the Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team netted four All-CCAA honors and finished sixth overall. 

Huerta posted a final time of 4:32.66 in the event, earning herself All-CCAA honors with her title. 

Tiffany Tate earned her second All-CCAA nod, this time in the shot put as she finished second with a distance thrown of 13.77 meters. 

A trio of Bronco vaulters finished in the top 10 and the group was led by Hannah Stueve, who reached a height of 3.42 meters. Deirdre Mercado was one spot behind her, reaching the same height but on a later jump. Rounding out the trio was Frances Barnes, who finished with a height of 3.27 meters. 

CPP's 4x100 relay group placed eighth with a final time of 49.23. The group was composed of Marcela Desir, Sandra Marquez, Kalin Tomlinson, and Kendahl Gaines

Araseli Servin finished fifth out of 16 competitors in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, posting a time of 11:00.83. With a time of 59.78, Marquez competed in the 400-meter dash and placed eighth. Desir was the lone Bronco in competition in the 100-meter dash and she finished fifth with a time of 12.21. 

Marissa Nickles led the way for CPP in the 5,000-meter run, posting a third-place finish with a time of 17:28.25. Her time and placement earned her All-CCAA honors. 

CPP also competed in the 4x400 meter relay, recording a sixth-place finish. The time of 4:00.48 was posted by the group of Danielle Foxvog, Casey Monoszlay, Kalin Tomlinson, and Marquez. 

The next event for the Green and Gold will be the Last Chance Meet on Sunday, May 15.
