POMONA, Calif. – Carry a three-game winning streak, Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer has moved back into the NCAA Division II national rankings.
After topping Humboldt State 1-0 on the road Sept. 18, the Broncos topped San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay by the same margin last weekend. CPP is now featured at No. 20 in this week's NCAA D-II national poll.
This week, the Broncos travel to play first-place Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and then Chico State on Sunday at 2 p.m. CPP is in a tie for second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), holding a 7-2-1 overall mark and 3-1 record in league action.
Wednesday's opponent – San Bernardino – has climbed to the top of the conference standings with a 3-0-1 undefeated mark. Sunday's challenge – Chico State – holds a 1-4-3 overall record while going 0-2-2 in league play.
Junior goalkeeper
Jason Trejos earned BroncoAthletics.com Athlete of the Week honors this week as he's guided the Broncos to three-consecutive shutouts. The Reseda native has totaled 30 saves this year while allowing just five goals in the first 10 games.
Sergi Monso continues his impressive hot streak, scoring all seven of his goals in the last six games. He is tied atop the CCAA goals leaderboard with Cal State Dominguez Hills' Joey Chica.
Sophomore defender
Nadeer Ghantous continues to bolster the Broncos' defense as he ranks second on the team in minutes, trailing only Trejos. Last year, Ghantous was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year.
