INDIANAPOLIS -- The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team has been ranked at No. 4 in the first official NCAA Division II Volleyball West Region rankings released Wednesday by the NCAA.
The Broncos (19-3) are enjoying their best season since 2005 when CPP finished the year with a 24-3 overall record. Should they maintain their ranking as one of the Top 8 teams in the West Region when the 64-team NCAA tournament field is announced on Nov. 11th, CPP will have qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 16th time in program history, and for the first time since 2008.
The announcement of the 2018 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship Tournament will come via a live selection show at NCAA.com on Nov. 11th at 7:00 pm. The NCAA will continue to release updated regional rankings
at NCAA.com every Wednesday afternoon leading up to the selection show in three weeks.
Western Washington, which is the No. 2 team in this week's AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, sits atop the West Region rankings with a 19-3 record. Cal State San Bernardino, the third-ranked team in the country this week, is No. 2 in the Region at 20-2, followed by CPP's opponent on Friday, Cal State L.A. at No. 3 with a record of 20-1. Sitting behind Cal Poly Pomona in the regional rankings is Central Washington (16-5) at No. 5 while Alaska Anchorage (16-5), Azusa Pacific (17-6) and Chaminade (17-4) are six through eight. On the outside looking in is Cal State Monterey Bay (15-6) at No. 9 and Point Loma (15-7) and No. 10.
Cal Poly Pomona, which is ranked 16th in the nation this week, will play its final two home games of the season this Friday (vs #9 Cal State L.A.) and Saturday (vs Cal State Dominguez Hills). First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm both nights in Kellogg Arena.
