AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll - Week 5

LEXINGTON, Ky. --
For the first time since 2009, the Cal Poly Pomona women's volleyball team appears in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll this week, ranked at No. 25 in the nation, the rankings were released by the organization Monday afternoon.

The Broncos are currently riding a 12-match win streak and are 13-1 overall, including an unblemished 6-0 record in league play.  They have been receiving votes in the national poll since Week 1 of this season, but it wasn't until this week (Week 5) that CPP broke into the Top 25.

It is the first time since 2008 that Cal Poly Pomona has been ranked during the regular season, the Broncos spent seven weeks as a ranked team that season, then was ranked at No. 18 in the 2009 preseason poll, but dropped out that first week of 2009 and haven't appeared in the rankings until now.

Since 1986, Cal Poly Pomona has been ranked in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Poll for a total of 154 weeks, and 91 of those weeks have come under the tutelage of 27th-year head coach Rosie Wegrich.

Monday's announcement by the AVCA sets up an epic week of competition in the CCAA, as all three nationally-ranked CCAA teams are scheduled to play each other.  No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona (13-1, 6-0 CCAA) will take on No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino (13-1, 6-0 CCAA) on Wednesday night in San Bernardino, then Cal State San Bernardino goes to Los Angeles to play No. 16 Cal State L.A. (12-0, 4-0 CCAA) on Friday before Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State L.A. go to battle on Saturday in LA.
