OFFICIAL CCAA RELEASE (MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD)
POMONA – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos men and women's track and field teams have been predicted to finish first this upcoming CCAA conference season announced Friday after the preseason coach's poll.
Led by head coach
Chris Bradford, the Cal Poly Pomona men and women's track and field team captured their first CCAA Championship titles since 1998 last spring. The women's team title is just their third in the programs 41-year history and the men's team title is the fourth in the programs 58-year history.
Following the meet, head coach
Chris Bradford was named CCAA Coach of the Year,
Ayana Fields was given CCAA High Point Award and Track Athlete of the Meet,
Ana Tovi was selected Field Athlete of the Meet,
Aaron May was awarded with the CCAA's High Points award as well as the Field Athlete of the Meet,
Bryce Bushnell was selected as the Freshman of the Meet and
Joshua Johnson was named the Track Athlete of the Meet.
In all, the Broncos earned 15 individual titles, the most for CPP in a conference meet since 1998. Women's individual winners –
Ana Tovi (Shot Put, Discus),
Ayana Fields (100m, 200m, 400m) and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams and Men's individual winners –
Kailen Smith (High Jump),
Aaron May (Discus),
Alejandro Sandoval Guzman (Shot Put),
Alessio Sommacal (110m Hurdles),
Matteo Madrassi (Pole Vault),
Joshua Johnson (100m, 200m) and
Ryan Fields (400m Hurdles).
Fields was also named CCAA Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
Chico State men and women's track and field finished second in the polls with 55 and 135 points respectively. Following behind for an anticipated third place finish was Cal State San Marcos men and women's track and field teams.
After their first scheduled meet was canceled due to inclement weather, the Broncos look to send both teams to the Beach Opener on Friday, March 3
rd in Long Beach.
