LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos opened the outdoor season securing first place spot nationally in the 200 meter, 4x100 meter relay, and 4x400 meter relay at the Beach Opener in Long Beach.
Ayana Fields sealed a first place ranking nationally in the 200 meter relay as she crossed the line for her new personal best time of 23.38. Teammate
Yuna Queniat closed the 200m with a time of 24.27 and is now ranked fifth nationally in the event.
In the 4x100 meter relay, the Broncos team of
Jaelyn Thomas, Fields,
Susie Fowler, and
Yuna Queniat grabbed a time of 45.90 and now hold first place in the national rankings in the event. Also ranked first nationally was the 4x400 meter relay team of Thomas, Queniat,
Arissa Hatcher, and Fields finished the event with a time of 3:47.86.
Keiana Turner finished 11
th in the shot put with a toss of 12.10m and grabbed a fifth place finish in the hammer throw as she threw for a distance of 50.56m.
Cynthia Hurtado had the best toss for CPP in the women's discus as she threw for 37.51m for a 15
th place meet finish.
Keiana Hamm had a 1
st place event finish in the high jump with a height of 5' 3.25", ranking her second in the nation. In the long jump,
Kelsey Ehinlaiye jumped for 18' 0.25" and finished 8
th in the event.
Natalie Lin closed the triple jump in fifth place as she leaped a distance of 37' 6.75".
Closing out Broncos with top five finishes at the Beach Open was
Susie Fowler who finished third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.28 and is now ranked second nationally.
The Broncos next meet is scheduled for March 10
th-11
th at the Ben Brown Invite in Fullerton.
