POMONA, Calif. – With the No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team in a tie for first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with the No. 15 Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles, the two will play each other in the final regular season game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
With the playoff race heating up, and the Broncos residing in first place in the NCAA Division II West Region, the CCAA regular season title will come down to Thursday's matchup. For seven Bronco seniors, they will be playing their final home conference game at Kellogg Field.
CPP holds a 15-1-1 record thus far in 2014, which includes a 9-1 tally in the CCAA.
The Golden Eagles hold an identical 9-1 mark in conference, with their season earnings showing a 13-2 mark.
This will be a battle of two titans of the CCAA. With both teams holding nationally-ranked numbers on both offense and defense, it will be an exciting matchup. Last time the two teams met, the Broncos won 1-0 in overtime at Jesse Owens Field.
Thus far in 2014, the Broncos remain undefeated at Kellogg Field, holding a perfect 8-0 record. They have held the opposition at Kellogg to a total of three points, while racking up 16 of their own.
Through all matches, home and away, the Broncos have scored 30 times, while the adversaries have been held to just seven goals.
CPP's offense has proven to be quite selfless, as the Broncos have tallied a total of 44 assists on the season, a program record for that category.
Category leaders for the CPP squad are
Christian Gonzalez Diaz, who holds eight goals, and also leads the CCAA in that statistic and
Daniel Garcia Jr., who is nationally ranked in the category, owns 10 assists. Gonzalez Diaz also leads the CCAA in goals, and his offensive performance has earned him 19 points, making him a strong contender for both the CCAA Newcomer of the Year and CCAA Offensive MVP awards.

Playoff PictureIn looking at the postseason picture, the Broncos, Cal State L.A., Cal State Dominguez Hills, and the other three qualifying CCAA teams will advance to the conference tournament. CPP and the Golden Eagles have earned a first-round bye, while the other four teams play at campus sites on Sunday, Nov. 2. The CCAA semifinal and final rounds will be played in Turlock, Calif., on Nov. 7 and Nov. 9.
