NEW ORLEANS - With a long list of top throwing and jumping performances, the Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team has taken the No. 17 spot in the first NCAA Division II
national rankings of the season.
Junior
Jessica Giacoletti has made an immediate impact in the high jump event, ranking at No. 2 nationally with a 5-7.75 mark recorded at the Cal State L.A. Invite. Another newcomer to the CPP roster,
Sarah Regan, holds the seventh-best 400-meter hurdles time at 1:04.91.
In the throws,
Samantha Swanson and
Carissa English have entered the national leaderboard with strong performances in the discus and hammer. Swanson ranks fifth in the discus at 139-7 while English recorded the third-best hammer throw at 164-8.
Sophomore
Makayla Jacoub continues to improve in the pole vault, an event in which she ranks eighth nationally. The Glendora native posted a 11-1.75 height at the Ben Brown Invite this past weekend.
The Broncos return to action this week with a busy schedule toward the end of Finals Week. CPP competes in multis at Cal State Northridge Thursday and Friday before the CSUN Invitational Saturday. The Broncos also will be competing at the Redlands Invitational Friday.
