SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona baseball team split a pair of one-run games Saturday in a doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino.
The Broncos got a clutch sacrifice fly in the first game and stellar relief efforts to record the 6-5 victory. In game No. 2, CPP couldn't capitalize on three Coyote errors and dropped a 2-1 result.
With marks of 26-10 overall and 19-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Broncos will start their final regular season home series on Thursday with a 3 p.m. first pitch against Cal State Stanislaus. Senior Day will be held Saturday at Scolinos Field.

Broncos 6, Coyotes 5The lead in game one changed hands four different times but ultimately it was the Broncos prevailing 6-5 with the difference maker proving to be a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning.
The game lasted three hours and 12 minutes as each team used four pitchers. The Broncos and Coyotes tallied 11 hits apiece while the defenses committed three errors each.
Senior outfielder
Joseph Eusebio put CPP on the board in the top of the first with an RBI double but CSUSB bounced back with a run in the second to even the score. Fellow fourth-year
David Armendariz had a tremendous performance offensively in the opening game of the doubleheader, going 3-for-3 and adding a walk. His solo homerun in the third put the Broncos back in front, 2-1.
The Coyotes managed to take a 4-3 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth but CPP responded once again. During the top of the sixth with two outs, pinch hitter
Nick Cooksey delivered a two-run double to return the lead back to the Broncos. Armendariz provided the go-ahead sac fly in the ninth while the CPP bullpen held tough as
RJ Shanks and
J.J. Franklin posted scoreless outings.

Cody Ponce tossed a stellar six-inning effort in the second game, allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out four. CSUSB manufactured a run in the bottom of the first, getting an RBI groundout from Nick Oddo to take a 1-0 advantage.
One of the three Coyote errors helped the Broncos even the score at 1-1 in the fourth, when
Steven Andrade reached first on a defensive miscue and
Bo Walter scored on the same play.
With the game scheduled for seven innings, the CSUSB attack tallied the deciding run in the fifth. After Aaron Beckley opened the Coyotes' rally with a double, Nolan Almodovar lined an RBI single up the middle to put the host squad in front 2-1.
