Box Score | STOCKTON, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team suffered a 5-2 loss to Chico State Saturday in an elimination game at the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships.
The Broncos fall to 32-15 overall while the Wildcats improve to 38-12 with the result. It was a battle of two nationally-ranked teams as CPP is featured at No. 19 while Chico is listed ninth at the Division II level.
The Broncos are expected to enter the West Regional field, which will be announced Sunday at 7 p.m. on
NCAA.com/liveschedule. The top six West Region teams advance to the NCAA postseason and the tournament site will also be revealed in Sunday's show. Regional play will start Thursday and it'll be a double-elimination format once again.
CPP jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the Saturday afternoon game when
Bo Walter provided an RBI single in the first inning to score
David Armendariz.
The Wildcats bounced back with five unanswered runs though, including three in the second and two more scores in the fifth inning. First baseman Tyler Madrid delivered a towering two-run homer as part of that second-inning rally.
Senior rightfielder
Joseph Eusebio continued to bolster the Broncos' offense as he went 2-for-4 Saturday and 8-for-14 overall at the CCAA Championships. In trying to keep CPP within striking distance, the Bronco bullpen pitched well Saturday.

Andy Amaro all contributed scoreless outings.
Alex Mistuloff earned the win for the Wildcats with a 5.2-inning outing of just two runs allowed. Luke Barker picked up his 14th save of the season with a scoreless inning in the ninth.
Later on Saturday, UC San Diego topped Chico State in the championship game by a score of 10-7. Broncos'
Steven Farnworth and
Joseph Eusebio were featured on the All-Tournament Team while UCSD's Nick La Face received the Most Outstanding Player recognition.
