POMONA, Calif. - While many NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field teams just wrapped up their indoor seasons and are just now shifting their attention to the outdoor season, others have been competing outdoors in the warm West Coast and South weather for the past month.

How have those teams' very early results stacked up against one another in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Team Computer Rankings? Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field ranks at No. 2 nationally while the Broncos' women's track and field program is featured at No. 3.

Leading the CPP track and field marks so far this year is the automatic qualifier for senior Justin Ellerbee, who cleared a height of 17-0 this past weekend in Fullerton. That ranks No. 1 nationally and is one of only three automatic qualifiers across all events for Division II this year. Austin Allen has also excelled in the pole vault, holding the No. 2 spot on the national leaderboard with the 16-1.25 height he recorded at the Pomona Preview Meet.

Fellow fourth-year Louis Martin III has starred in the sprints, ranking second nationally in the 200-meter dash at 21.36 and third in the 100-meter event at 10.58.

In the distance events, Mark Huizar is featured at No. 3 in the 5,000-meter run after racing to a 14:29.60 time in Fullerton last Saturday. On the women's side for the 5,000, Lizette Huerta is fourth with a 17:20.78 mark.

Ahmed Abdul-Rahman holds a national ranking in both the hammer and discus, tossing the hammer 178-0 to rank third and throwing the discus 169-8 to hold the No. 2 spot. Also in the throws, Tiffany Gray ranks second in the shotput at 47-3.5. 

With four regular season meets completed, CPP will now shift its focus to the events this week: Cal State Northridge Multis on Thursday and Friday along with the Redlands Invite to be held Friday.
