ALLENDALE, Mich. - A pair of Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field student-athletes competed on day one of the NCAA Division II Track & Field National Championships Thursday.
The three-day event is being hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. Broncos' senior
Erin Zwinger started her heptathlon competition on Thursday morning and finished the first day of action with 2,580 points.
Zwinger collected her highest amount of points in the 200-meter dash as she crossed the line in 26.72 to earn 735 points. She also performed well in the high jump, clearing a 5-1 height to receive 678 points for that event.
Ranked 18th in the heptathlon standings, Zwinger will aim to rise in the rankings with three events on Friday: long jump, javelin and the 800-meter.
Junior
Lizette Huerta raced in the 1,500-meter prelim on Thursday, posting a 4:38.17 mark to finish 17th overall. It marked her second career appearance at nationals as she also raced in the 1,500-meter event in 2013 in Colorado.
Another CPP female track and field student-athlete to compete this week will be senior
Tiffany Gray, who will start the shot put at 8:15 a.m. Pacific (11:15 a.m. Eastern).
