POMONA, Calif.- With a 3-0-1 record thus far in 2015, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team will head to La Jolla to challenge the UC San Diego Tritons for their first 2015 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup.
So far this season, the Tritons have posted a 1-2-2 overall record with a 1-0 mark at home as they defeated Concordia 1-0. The matchup between the Broncos and the Tritons is set for Friday and kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Last season, the two teams met once and the Green and Gold came away with the 2-0 victory. CPP's goals in that game were scored by
Adi Azran and
Christian Gonzalez Diaz. The Tritons have a slight advantage in the all-time series as CPP holds an 11-23-3 record against their La Jolla opponents.
After the Broncos play their game in La Jolla, they will stay in San Diego County as they head to San Marcos. The CSUSM Cougars are entering their first season of play in the CCAA this year. Looking at the all-time series between the two squads, neither holds an advantage as each has tallied one win, one loss, and one tie.
The Broncos' offense is led statistically by
Sergi Monso, who has provided three goals in four games. On top of the three goals, the Spain native also tallied three assists in the games and currently leads the squad with nine points.
Just behind him is Gonzalez Diaz, last season's CCAA Newcomer and Offensive Player of the Year, who has tallied two goal and a pair of assists himself. Just back of Gonzalez Diaz is
Alexander Turkson, a native of Ghana who has provided CPP with a goal and a pair of assists.
In the goal for the Green and Gold is
Fernando Pablo Quevedo, who has racked up eight saves and one shutout thus far in four games.
CPP will return to Kellogg Field on Sept. 25 as a 7 p.m. start against Cal State Dominguez Hills will mark their Pack the Stands night. Fans will be able to partake in promotional activities and festivities put on by the CPP Athletics Department.
